The first hydrogen refueling station in Taiwan will be constructed at Tainan’s Southern Taiwan Science Park.
Linde Lienhwa Industrial Gases (LLH) will initiate construction of the station at its Tainan Tree Valley Park Industrial Zone location through a joint venture with Mitac-Synnex Group. LLH will construct and operate the hydrogen filling station, which will be operational by early 2023.
The proof-of-concept station will produce blue hydrogen for a variety of fuel cell vehicles planned to be released in Taiwan in the future years. The station will initially be made available for testing and validation by the government and select consumers.
LLH has been a major provider of blue hydrogen, which is created through steam-methane reforming, for over 25 years. Using a carbon capture device, the method can recover more than 70 percent of the carbon dioxide produced during the synthesis of blue hydrogen, according to the business.
In addition, the Mitac-Synnex Group and commercial hydrogen fuel cell car provider Hyzon Motors Inc. inked an MOU at the end of February to collaboratively develop commercial hydrogen fuel cell vehicles for the Taiwanese market. In 2023, the first batch of hydrogen-powered trucks will be available.
Mitac-Synnex Group and Hyzon Motors will introduce commercial hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in Taiwan, as well as logistics, operations, and supply chain management for the hydrogen transportation business, with the cooperation of key Taiwanese agencies.
