Tamil Nadu, a stalwart in India’s green energy evolution, is embarking on a groundbreaking venture to establish a green hydrogen hub, aiming to elevate its installed energy capacity from 50% to an impressive 75%. Commerce and Industries Minister TRB Rajaa unveiled this ambitious initiative during the India EV Conclave, emphasizing the state’s commitment to leading the charge in the green energy transition.

In a resounding declaration, Minister Rajaa unveiled Tamil Nadu’s strategic move toward creating a green hydrogen hub, a transformative initiative set to redefine the region’s energy landscape. The envisioned hub represents a paradigm shift towards harnessing the potential of green hydrogen, aligning with global sustainability goals.

Acknowledging the synergy between green hydrogen and electric vehicles (EVs), Minister Rajaa emphasized the importance of fostering a robust electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The integration of green hydrogen and EV charging networks emerges as a symbiotic relationship, propelling Tamil Nadu into a comprehensive and sustainable energy ecosystem.

Tamil Nadu’s prowess in the electric vehicle domain is underscored by the presence of industry giants such as Ola, TVS Motor, Ather, Ampere Vehicles, BYD India, Stellantis, and E-Royce Motors. These stalwarts, strategically located in various regions of Tamil Nadu, contribute significantly to the large-scale production of electric vehicles, reinforcing the state’s pivotal role in the burgeoning EV sector.

Minister Rajaa attributed Tamil Nadu’s success in the electric vehicle sector to a policy-driven approach and the visionary leadership of Chief Minister M K Stalin. The state’s progressive EV policy, designed for future readiness, has catalyzed revolutionary changes in commuting patterns, with a notable emphasis on the innovative ‘battery-as-a-service’ initiative.

The electric vehicle sector is poised to take center stage during the upcoming Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet scheduled for January 2023. Minister Rajaa anticipates that this high-profile event will provide tremendous visibility to the strides made by Tamil Nadu in the electric vehicle and sustainable energy landscape, further solidifying the state’s position as a frontrunner in inclusive and sustainable growth.
