Tata Steel Netherlands has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ford in Europe to provide green steel to the automobile manufacturer Zeremis.
The deliveries will start as soon as the IJmuiden steel factory changes to producing steel using green hydrogen, which is more environmentally friendly and sustainable than the existing method.
Ford must be able to obtain more ecologically friendly steel in order to achieve its 2035 carbon neutrality goal. Ford and Tata Steel intend to look into possibilities for other green steel products since Ford is already focusing on using low-carbon steel in its all-new all-electric mid-size crossover, which will begin production in Europe in 2023.
A typical car weighs more than half its weight in steel, which can come in hundreds of various varieties. Strength, weight, formability, magnetic characteristics, and coating types differ among all varieties.
There is a continuing drive to make steel stronger, lighter, and smoother for reasons of safety, the environment, and aesthetics. Additionally, as electric vehicles gain in popularity, steel requirements for automakers as well as the design ideas of automobiles are changing.
