Travancore Cochin Chemicals (TCC) is poised to become a major supplier of hydrogen, the future fuel.

The government has established a State Hydrogen Mission and announced plans to purchase ten hydrogen-powered buses, signaling a shift away from traditional fuels and toward more sustainable alternatives.

According to reports, the Vyttila Mobility Hub will house a large hydrogen dispensing station. The hydrogen dispensed from the hub will be used to power both water transport vessels linked to the Kochi Metro and public transportation vehicles.

The TCC currently produces approximately 4.5 tonnes of hydrogen per day, with production expected to increase to six tonnes per day beginning next month. The hydrogen mission has a daily demand of 350 kg.

TCC already uses hydrogen as a fuel for its boilers, replacing feedstock furnace oil. The savings are both financial and in terms of a significant reduction in environmental pollution. Hydrogen is a fuel with no emissions. According to those involved in the project, when hydrogen is burned, the end product is water.
