Teréga oversees the pipelines that connect New Aquitaine and Occitania as part of the H2Med initiative, which was started by France, Spain, and Portugal.
Thus, the operator is contributing to the creation of a hydrogen transport and storage infrastructure under the name of the HySoW project (Hydrogen South West), with an eye towards the eventual creation of a European hydrogen backbone. According to the current rule on trans-European energy networks, this project is a contender for the Project of Common Interest (PCI) title (TEN-E).
The goal is to connect important industrial and transportation hubs in Occitania and New Aquitaine, including Bayonne, Lacq, Pau, Bordeaux, and Toulouse, with an extension to Port-La-New. Connecting these regions to domestic hydrogen fluxes, such those from southern Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Atlantic coast, is the goal (French production and imports).
Of course, the diagram establishes a connection between France and Spain and the Barcelona to Marseille project (BarMar). Using hydrogen storage and an H2 to Power initiative, this project also intends to improve the overall energy system’s supply security.
