Samcheok City plans to designate hydrogen-specialized industrial complex

The 8th public election priority project, to be designated as a hydrogen-specialized industrial complex, was declared by Samcheok City, Gangwon-do.

The Industrial Location Policy Council of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport accepted the designation plan for a “hydrogen-specialized industrial complex” in the vicinity of 812 Dongmak-ri, Geundeok-myeon in December, according to Samcheok City on the 5th.

An important government strategy, the “Hydrogen Specialized Industrial Complex” was developed to support the liquefied hydrogen sector.

The industries that make up the hydrogen industry’s value chain and are associated with hydrogen generation, charging, storage, transportation, and mobility are the target ones.

The city signed a consignment/consignment business agreement with the Gangwon-do Development Corporation, which has experience, at the end of last year in order to promote effective development projects. Purchase of land, payment for impediments, execution and completion of building, etc. are all consignment responsibilities.

We intend to file for approval of the industrial complex implementation plan in the first half of this year and to begin building in earnest in the second, following talks with connected organizations and future development implementation plans.

Elogen and ENERTRAG agree supply of 10 MW PEM electrolyser

A contract was signed by Elogen, a GTT group firm, and ENERTRAG SE, a leading provider of renewable energy solutions in Europe, to develop and manufacture a PEM electrolyser (Proton Exchange Membrane) with a 10 MW capacity.

In 2024, Elogen will set up its technology in a location close to Magdeburg, Germany. In North and Middle Germany, ENERTRAG is now working on a number of green hydrogen projects.

With all of the electrical energy required for electrolysis coming from renewable sources, the Elogen electrolyser will be able to produce up to four tonnes of green hydrogen every day.

The power system will be able to account for variations in wind and sun energy thanks to the electrolyser. In the medium term, the green hydrogen produced will supply the 100% hydrogen pipelines of the gas transmission system operator ONTRAS. This will help decarbonize heavy industry and long-distance trucking, produce electricity in the event of “dark-doldrums,” and reduce greenhouse gas emissions overall.

New trains arrive in Lombardy in 2023

On the rails in Lombardy, there are more and more brand-new Trenord trains operating.

Currently, there are 85 new generation trains in operation; in addition to the 39 that were already in service a year ago, another 46 were added in 2022, and an additional 50 will arrive in 2023. With an investment of over 1.7 billion, the Lombardy Region will finish the supply of the 222 new trains by 2025.

Currently in service are 4 Colleonis, 26 medium-capacity Donizettis, and 55 high-capacity Caravaggios. After the building company, the Swiss Stadler, fixed the software issues that dramatically lengthened train travel times, the latter have once again been in use in recent weeks.

In 2023, 50 new trains will be introduced, but there will be more. By the end of the year, the first hydrogen trains are anticipated to arrive (although it is currently unknown how many will), and they will conduct their first test runs on the Brescia-Iseo-Edolo route before going into full commercial service in 2024.

Bakken Energy and BNSF Railway partner on Heartland Hydrogen Hub

Together with BNSF Railway, Bakken Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding to work on the Heartland Hydrogen Hub’s architecture, with a focus on the railroads’ functions as both consumers and carriers of clean hydrogen.

One of the top freight corporations in North America, BNSF Railway has a 32,500-mile rail network over 28 states and three Canadian provinces. Leading product and material carrier BNSF works to get food, clothing, supplies, and energy to communities in North America and other parts of the world.

No plans from German govt for generation of decarbonized hydrogen from biogenic sources

The German federal government does not intend to encourage the generation of decarbonized hydrogen from biogenic or waste sources.

That is according to a statement made by the Federal Government in response to a brief question (20/4816) from the CDU/CSU faction.

lthough biogenic raw materials and energy sources are needed for decarbonization in other areas, there is limited supply of sustainable biomass.  Because of this, according to the federal government, a targeted incentive for the production of biogenic hydrogen does not appear to make sense in most circumstances.

The Bundestag excluded the promotion of hydrogen from biogenic sources within the framework of the GHG quota in the previous legislative cycle with the law for the ongoing development of the greenhouse gas reduction quota. The government should establish incentives for the growth of electrolysis capacity, which are used to extract hydrogen from renewable electricity of non-biogenic origin. This will help the hydrogen economy pick up speed.

This objective, according to the federal government, would be compromised if, for instance, power or biogas were produced through the energetic use of biomass. Hydrogen utilized in road cars that comes from biogenic sources can be credited with a return. It is not intended to raise more money.

Chile’s green hydrogen fund might make its first investment

By the middle of the year, a green hydrogen fund in Chile might make its first investment. By year’s end, projects could start building.

Genesis Ventures, a venture capitalist, is in charge of managing the $300 million Green H2 Fund. It is now reviewing a portfolio of about 12 pilot projects that are in various phases of development.

Projects that are well-positioned to sign offtake agreements with local industry and have electrolyzer capacities of 20 to 100 MW are thought to be particularly alluring. Officials of the fund intend to invest money in the first two or three projects as part of a launch plan. The main goal is to make 5-7 investments.

The fund’s first phase is now closed, and money infusions could start in the middle of the year.

Standalone green hydrogen and green hydrogen derivative plants with proposed power-purchase agreements, as well as production facilities with connected renewable energy plants to directly power them, are projects that are being considered. Projects involving energy storage are also being considered.

Court ruling allows Louisiana Clean Energy Complex to move forward

A Louisiana ordinance that threatened a $4.5 billion hydrogen and carbon storage project was struck down by a federal court, supporting developers in a case that is seen as a foreshadowing of upcoming national conflicts over the fuel.

The proposal, officially known as the Louisiana Clean Energy Complex, was introduced in 2021 by Air Products and Chemicals Inc. with backing from Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards.

The business plans to construct a new production facility that converts natural gas into “blue” hydrogen while absorbing the carbon emissions produced in the process. A permanent storage facility for the carbon dioxide would then be constructed beneath Lake Maurepas, roughly 40 miles from Baton Rouge.

The complex has the potential to be one of the nation’s first significant blue hydrogen facilities when finished.

Hydrogen production, storage, and filling stations for drones by H3 Dynamics

Hydrogen production is now available at various drone operation sites thanks to H2FIELD’s tough IP-65 trailer-based technology. It can also be permanently installed without being dismantled and linked to solar panel arrays.

Depending on the needs of the client, H3 Dynamics can offer a variety of systems with slow or quick charge possibilities down to minutes per fill. The technology from H3 Dynamics is incredibly small and has the ability to manufacture hydrogen locally rather than just discharge it from other storage forms.

H2FIELD-1 removes a significant logistical obstacle for a rising base of hydrogen drone operators in the industrial, defense, or even academic sectors by resolving fundamental hydrogen accessibility in remote places. Water is the sole feedstock input.

Utilizing the liquid hydrogen storage technologies being tested in France by ISAE-SUPAERO in Toulouse, H3 Dynamics has been working on the first transatlantic hydrogen-electric flight. The partnership between H3 Dynamics and HyLight, a French manufacturer of airships, was announced last week. H3 Dynamics also announced a partnership with Australian VTOL UAV manufacturer Carbonix, whose airframes are made by Quickstep, Australia’s top manufacturer of aerospace composites, last week.
