Topsoe and Aramco have joined forces to create low-carbon hydrogen, also known as blue hydrogen.

They signed a joint development agreement (JDA) to use Topsoe’s eREACT technology at Aramco’s Shaybah NGL facility.

The project will merge Aramco’s advanced palladium-alloy membrane technology with Topsoe’s eREACT platform. This combination allows for efficient low-carbon hydrogen production while capturing CO2 emissions. Aramco’s resources and global reach are crucial for bringing this technology to market.

By combining their expertise, Topsoe and Aramco aim to speed up the global use of this new technology. Successfully deploying eREACT technology will greatly cut down the carbon emissions of the energy and chemical industries, meeting the rising demand for sustainable energy sources.

Elena Scaltritti, Topsoe’s Chief Commercial Officer, expressed excitement about working closely with Aramco. She emphasized the commercial opportunities of eREACT technology in low-carbon hydrogen production, marking a key step toward a low-carbon hydrogen economy. Ali A. Meshari, Senior Vice President of Technology Oversight at Aramco, stated that the partnership aims to create an advanced solution for low-carbon hydrogen production from hydrocarbons by leveraging Aramco’s infrastructure and Saudi Arabia’s renewable resources.
