China launches hydrogen-powered trains
Hydrogen-powered trains have been introduced in China.
It has a 600 km range and a top speed of 160 Kmph.
China provides 28% of the world’s carbon emissions, however it is currently attempting to dramatically cut these emissions. China has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, and all other nations are also making progress in this direction.
China is also making significant progress in constructing some of the largest solar panel arrays in the world to benefit its people.
Egypt allots land for green hydrogen
The Egyptian Cabinet has authorized many plans to encourage the usage and deployment of green hydrogen and renewable energy in various parts of the nation.
At a meeting held in the New Administrative Capital, the Cabinet resolved to allot 141,075 feddans of state-owned land situated in the Matrouh Governorate for renewable energy projects. The New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) is permitted to make the land available to potential investors under the usufruct scheme.
Also made available for wind projects were a number of land parcels in the southern Egyptian governorates of Aswan and Sohag.
The allotment of an additional 303.3 hectares in Matrouh to construct green hydrogen and green ammonia production capacity was also approved by the Cabinet. This choice helps Egypt’s goals of becoming a major exporter of green energy in the region.
Calgary sees first commercial run of Canadian Pacific’s hydrogen locomotive
An important step toward perhaps replacing diesel-electric locomotives with the technology was made with the successful completion of the first revenue run in Calgary, Alberta, by Canadian Pacific’s experimental hydrogen-powered locomotive.
The locomotive, known as H2 0EL or “hydrogen zero-emissions locomotive,” powers its electric traction motors using hydrogen fuel cells and batteries.
Canadian Pacific’s headquarters in Calgary and an additional facility in Edmonton both use solar energy to generate hydrogen.
By the end of next year, the business hopes to have two more locomotives working in Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver thanks to a partnership with the government of Alberta.
