H2NAT promotes Albacete’s 100% renewable hydrogen generation initiative

Emilio Sáez, the mayor of Albacete, met with representatives of the H2NAT firm, which specializes in producing 100% green hydrogen from photovoltaic energy, and they discussed the features of the project that this company has developed for producing green hydrogen. With a 210 million euro initial investment, the project will result in the creation of 35 direct jobs, 90 indirect jobs, and more than 200 jobs during the building phase.

The H2NAT project recently asked for the designation as a Priority Project, citing the Law 5/2020 of July 24 on Urgent Measures for the Declaration of Priority Projects in Castilla-La Mancha as sufficient justification for its compliance. Since the only “waste” that hydrogen creates is water vapor, it should be highlighted that hydrogen is one of the cleanest energy vectors now in use. Hydrogen is also one of the upcoming energy sources.


Pineapple Power Corporation acquires 100% of Element 2’s outstanding shares

Pineapple Power Corporation, a special purpose acquisition company listed on the Standard Market of the London Stock Exchange, has entered into a non-binding agreement to acquire 100% of Element 2’s outstanding shares in an all-share transaction. Element 2 is the UK’s leading provider of hydrogen infrastructure for commercial fleets.

For over two years, Element 2 has driven the UK’s energy transformation by creating a network of hydrogen refuelling stations and supplying fuel cell grade hydrogen to commercial fleet owners and operators and engine testing facilities. The company now operates five hydrogen filling stations in the UK and is building two permanent public stations on the M6 and A1(M) highways.

The planned RTO will enable Element 2 to swiftly develop its hydrogen refuelling station network and support its ambitious expansion goals, expediting the UK’s transition to net zero road transport.

The acquisition is crucial as the UK government prioritizes decarbonisation and clean energy. Element 2’s expertise in hydrogen and refuelling infrastructure and Pineapple’s in renewable energy and financing markets enable the two companies to lead the way to a sustainable, low-carbon future.


Inycom promotes hydrogen-storage microgrids in Spain

The new European project Sinnogenes, which Instrumentation and Components-Inycom is a part of, is working to promote the use of hydrogen as an energy source and in the development of renewable energy storage technologies, both of which will be the subject of a pilot in the Walqa Technology Park.

Through the Energy project development area (Inycom Energy), Instrumentation and Components is continuing to advance lines of work previously undertaken in other energy management projects at a European level, making it possible to have a number of modules or tools for the energy management of energy islands, one of which is Walqa in Huesca. The corporation was already in charge of another pilot project right here in this technology park.

Since Sinnogenes will have multiple pilot projects in Spain, Portugal, Germany, Greece, and Switzerland, different storage tools of renewable origin (hydrogen) will be developed using different technologies. Sinnogenes is funded with 9.6 million euros and the cooperation of 27 partners.


UK’s North Sea Transition Authority may regulate hydrogen transport and storage

The UK government has started a survey on potential offshore hydrogen regulatory frameworks. The survey is looking for opinions on ideas for ‘first layer’ transit and storage systems.

In the consultation, it is suggested that the North Sea Transition jurisdiction’s regulatory jurisdiction be expanded so that it can also grant permits and give its approval for offshore hydrogen storage and pipeline transportation.


Hyundai, USNC and SK Ecoplant to develop pink hydrogen production system

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by US-based Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC), SK Ecoplant, and Hyundai Engineering to work together on the development of the H2 Micro Hub, an affordable pink hydrogen production device.

With Hyundai in charge of the engineering, procurement, and construction of the power system and auxiliary components and SK Ecoplant supplying Bloom Energy’s solid oxide electrolysis cell technology, the project will require collaborative research over a five-year period.

A microreactor with a high-temperature, gas-cooled design will be contributed by USNC. Pink hydrogen will be produced and distributed locally through the hub, which also serves as a practical way to create, use, and distribute pink hydrogen.


Bremen lays foundation for green steel production with new electrolyzer

Bremen’s ArcelorMittal Steelworks has laid the foundation for its first electrolyzer, a key step towards replacing the coal required for production with hydrogen in the medium term, with the goal of producing green steel. The plant produces 3.5 million tons of flat steel with nearly two tons of CO2 per tonne annually, contributing significantly to Bremen’s total CO2 emissions. Operations of the hydrogen-producing electrolyzer are expected to commence in June 2024, and the plant will use hydrogen produced with renewable energy to produce pig iron. Bremen plans to be climate neutral by 2038, and the SPD is making it a key issue in the current election campaign.

The project will receive €10m in support from the Bremen Senate, and the technology change in the steel industry is being compared to the shift from combustion engines to electric drives in the automotive industry. The electrolyzer will initially produce around 2,500 tons of hydrogen per year, but much more will be required to produce completely green steel. The CDU supports the project but questions the financing of climate projects and advocates for a “black zero” in addition to a “green zero”. Transforming the steel industry is vital for creating sustainable industry and employment, according to environment Senator Maike Schaefer. Bremer Hütte claims to have taken a step towards climate-neutralization in the early 2030s.
