Stellantis joins Symbio

As the third shareholder in the joint venture for fuel cells, Stellantis has formally joined Symbio. The business declared that it now owns 33.3% of the shares. Faurecia and Michelin are additional shareholders.

At the conclusion of the previous year, Stellantis had made known that it intended to acquire an interest in Symbio. The automaker then entered into a legally binding contract with the other two stockholders in May 2023. It is still unknown how much Stellantis paid for this share.

Symbio was developed as a fuel cell producer with a focus on the European market in November 2019 by Faurecia and Michelin. In August 2022, it grew to include the US. Being reliant on Symbio’s stacks for the fuel cell versions of the Opel Vivaro-e and related cars, The Stellantis Group has been one of the joint venture’s close partners. Stellantis is targeting, among other things, the expansion of its hydrogen supply to larger commercial vehicles, commencing in 2024 in Europe and from 2025 in the USA, as part of its strategy plan Dare Forward 2030.

Paraguay launches hydrogen workshop

“Development of a National Strategy for the Green Hydrogen Economy in Paraguay” launched with a hybrid workshop at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Eng. Carlos Zaldivar, Vice Minister of Mines and Energy of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications, opened the workshop by saying that Paraguay could take advantage of its abundant water-energy resources and strategic geographical location in the center of South America to produce and export H2 Verde.

He also noted that the H2 industry could help the country meet its international commitments, such as the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by increasing energy security and decarbonizing certain energy sectors. He also thanked Japan for funding the IDB Technical Cooperation.

HYmpulsion propels the Lyon-Turin hydrogen motorway

The proponents of the hydrogen motorway project between Lyon and Turin hope to contribute to the decarbonization of transportation on an axis that is frequently congested with heavy freight vehicles. They also hope to encourage the growth of an ecosystem centered around hydrogen mobility.

The Lyon-Turin hydrogen highway project, also known as AnnHYbal, was introduced on July 12 at a webinar. The Syndicate of the country of Maurienne is one of its actors. On the grounds of this enterprise with a mixed economy, the route is perfectly anchored. It is one of the longest mountain valleys, stretching 120 kilometers to Italy. Hence the heavy transportation use in a place with little tourist and population activity. especially on the motorways that cross it and facilitate the annual crossing of one million trucks.

Development of JCB hydrogen engine impresses UK energy secretary

Grant Shapps, the UK energy secretary, has tasked JCB with putting its incredibly efficient hydrogen machinery to use on farms and construction sites by the end of next year. He expressed his admiration for the company’s early progress in creating engines that run on the zero-carbon fuel.

Yesterday, the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero paid a visit to JCB Power Systems in Derbyshire to observe the developments made by a group of more than 150 engineers in the creation of cutting-edge hydrogen combustion engines for use in construction and agricultural machines. There have already been more than 50 prototype engines built, and several machines are currently being tested.
