In just five months, students from Selcuk University’s Technology Faculty created two cars that operate on electricity and hydrogen fuel.

The project’s general coordinator, SU Technology Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. akir Taşdemir, stated that the student’s goal is to address the need for skilled engineers in this sector.

Under the guidance of two academic advisers at Selçuk University, 35 students created electromobile (battery-operated) and hydromobile (hydrogen-powered electric vehicle) vehicles in support of Turkey’s “National Technology Move” aim.

The project’s general coordinator, SU Technology Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. akir Taşdemir, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the students’ goal is to satisfy the need for skilled engineers in this sector.

“We obtained good results with the cooperation of our Rector,” Taşdemir said, adding that the institution has begun efforts to examine this gap. Without exaggeration, our pals worked all hours of the day and night. The pupils awoke in this location. In terms of the capability of skilled professionals in the field of electric cars, we believe it will make a significant contribution to our country, companies, and industry. Nothing was in the middle when we started. “I consider it as a critical level to attain these in a short period of time,” he stated.

Assoc. Dr. Abdullah Engin zçelik of the SU Mechanical Engineering Automotive Department further revealed that the vehicle design phase lasted two months and the production phase three months.

“The overall weight of the car does not surpass 200 kilos,” zçelik added, referring to the fact that they completed the university’s first automobile projects. With the pilot, we set a goal of 250 kilos, which we achieved. It was quite tough to produce the doors. The pupils are the true winners here. They finished the job with very little sleep, especially in the last month,” stated.

On the other side, the hydromobile vehicle’s consultant, SU Technology Faculty Electrical and Electronics Engineering Faculty Member Dr. Hakan Terziolu, claims that a hydrogen-fueled vehicle is more expensive than an electric vehicle.

“We picked this to train the students and understand the technical aspects since we foresee future breakthroughs in hydrogen-fueled cars.” The most significant distinction is that hydrogen energy is employed as a fuel in conjunction with the battery. Aside than that, it’s the same system as before. In terms of location, both automobiles are ours. These buddies now understand what electric cars are, what components they contain, what should be considered in these components, and what they should and should not do during the design and manufacturing stages. Students will be a part of the development process to get TOGG experience. Their real-world experience is in the industry, and they’ll get it in real-world situations.”

Professor Cem Gökdoan, the team’s vehicle test pilot, said that driving the car was a terrific experience from start to finish, and that they were able to put their theoretical knowledge obtained in school into practice.
