The Governing Council of the Junta was informed of the assignment to the Project Accelerator Unit of two initiatives involving the development of a photovoltaic plant and a hydrolysis plant for the production of green hydrogen in the municipalities of Dos Hermanas (Seville) and Alcala la Real (Jaen), respectively, with the support of the Directorate General of Energy of the Ministry of Finance.

As detailed by the Andalusian Government in a statement, the company H2Green La Isla is planning a pilot demonstration plant consisting of a green hydrogen generation project connected to a rooftop solar photovoltaic installation in Dos Hermanas (Seville) to, on the one hand, inject its production into the natural gas distribution network, and, on the other hand, use part of this generation for mobility, with the installation of a hydrogen plant.

The initiative also includes a recharging point for electric vehicles, powered by the photovoltaic plant, added the information, which details that this project was submitted to the call for incentives for singular projects in electric mobility of the Moves II program, being awarded an incentive of 2.46 million out of a total planned investment of 4.66 million euros.

The project of the company Gedisol Energía consists of the design and sizing of a photovoltaic system for grid-connected production installed on the ground. The photovoltaic plant is intended to be connected to a 1.8 MW hydrogen plant located in the Llano Mazuelos Industrial Park. The hydrogen produced will be used as fuel for heavy and industrial mobility — forklifts, pallet trucks, etc. — targeting companies and entities within a radius of up to 55 kilometers, which includes municipalities such as Jaen, Granada, Lucena, Cabra, Baena, Priego de Cordoba, Loja and Albolote, as well as Alcala La Real.

This initiative was presented to the first call for aid for investment in electricity generation facilities with biomass, wind and solar photovoltaic energy sources in Andalusia, co-financed with European Union funds, obtaining an incentive of six million euros for a total investment of 11.7 million euros.

This type of projects, which involve the production of natural gas that does not generate CO2 emissions during its generation, “reduce energy dependence on foreign and fossil fuels, constituting an engine of socio-economic development” for Andalusia “towards the shift to a green economy,” said the Board, which has also stressed that green hydrogen “is seen as an essential energy vector to achieve decarbonization in multiple sectors such as industry, mobility and households, among others”.
