Faculty and staff at Campus do Pici, led by Prof. Prisco Bezerra, hosted a delegation from Rectory, the Federal University of Ceará. The Department of Mechanical Engineering’s Laboratory of Hydrogen and Thermal Machines received an investment of more than R$ 500 thousand on the occasion.
The goal is to adapt the site’s facilities to allow for research partnerships, with a primary focus on green hydrogen studies. As a result, a space fuel research facility is being considered. The University of Porto do Pecém collaborates with the state government to plan, research, and build a hydrogen production hub in the city.
Green hydrogen production is a priority for the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex, where the Ceará government is working to establish a hub (CIPP). Hydrogen, despite its abundance in nature, does not exist in a pure form. In a chemical reaction known as electrolysis, it’s produced. It is referred to as “green hydrogen” if it is produced using renewable energy sources like wind and solar without the emission of carbon dioxide.
He and his team also went to Geography, Geosciences and Math to learn about the work being done in these departments and hear requests for structural changes.
