Brazilian chemical manufacturer Unigel will be the first in the nation to create “green hydrogen” on an industrial scale with an investment of up to $1.5 billion in its Bahia complex.
By the end of 2023, the plant’s first of three phases should be completed. These phases will double the plant’s capacity and allow it to produce 100,000 tonnes of hydrogen or 600,000 tonnes of one of its derivatives, ammonia, by the end of 2027.
Electrolysers from Thyssenkrupp Nucera will be used to create green hydrogen by converting wind or solar energy (TKAG.DE).
In July of last year, Unigel declared its intention to construct the factory and stated that a $120 million initial investment will be made.
The business is also considering possibilities for raising money for the project’s second and third phases, which might include joint ventures and an IPO (IPO).
