Uniper and Sasol have decided to discontinue their project in Sweden, which aimed to produce aviation fuel using green hydrogen.

Initially announced as a 200MW facility, the project was expected to transform Sweden into a key player in the sustainable aviation fuel industry. By utilizing Sweden’s rich wind energy resources, the plant intended to generate green hydrogen, which would then be converted into aviation fuel. This process promised significant reductions in carbon emissions, aligning with global efforts to make air travel more environmentally friendly.

However, Uniper and Sasol faced several challenges that led to the project’s cancellation. These included economic viability concerns, technical complexities, and regulatory hurdles. After careful consideration, the companies concluded that the project’s continuation was not feasible under current conditions.

Despite the setback, both companies remain committed to exploring alternative solutions and partnerships to advance green hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel technologies. They continue to consider other markets and technologies that could support their long-term sustainability objectives.
