Vestas has secured a 76 MW order for Chitose wind farm and Noheji Mutsuwan wind farm in Japan’s Aomori prefecture, in collaboration with Tokyu Land Corporation and Japan Wind Development.
Because the region’s prone to typhoons and earthquakes, comprehensive cooperation between all project partners was required when developing a turbine solution to optimize wind capture in the challenging wind and weather conditions at the sites.
The order includes the supply and supervision of four V117-3.45 MW and six V105-3.45 MW turbines all supplied in 3.6 MW Power Optimized Mode at Chitose wind farm, as well as 11 V105-3.45 MW turbines in 3.6 MW Power Optimized Mode at Noheji Mutsuwan wind farm.
The turbine models are well adapted for the demanding weather conditions at the sites with a rugged design for difficult wind sites and all turbines will feature modified 94 meter towers to withstand seismic loads, high turbulence and severe wind speeds.
Vestas will also have Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreements for both wind farms for a multi-year period. The agreement would ensure optimal efficiency and long-term business certainty with an energy-based availability guarantee.
Delivery of Vestas’ turbines will begin in the first quarter of 2021 with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.
