Volue has entered into a significant partnership with Nordic Ren-Gas, a prominent developer of e-methane and hydrogen solutions.

Volue’s agreement with Nordic Ren-Gas is its first large-scale system and service package deal within the Power-to-X sector. Volue Energy Market Services will deliver simulation and control room services to support Ren-Gas’ decentralized portfolio of e-methane production plants in Finland. The collaboration includes an Energy Management System (EMS) provided as Software as a Service (SaaS), SCADA connections, and information exchange, all designed to simulate future electricity procurement and reserve market operations in a risk-free environment.

Volue’s simulation services are aimed at modeling Ren-Gas’ market operations, providing a critical tool for planning and optimizing energy management strategies. This approach allows Ren-Gas to test and refine their operations in a simulated environment, reducing the risks associated with real-world implementation. This strategic advantage is expected to enhance the efficiency and profitability of Ren-Gas’ operations.

The integration of EMS and SCADA connections is pivotal for the real-time monitoring and management of energy production and consumption. These technologies facilitate seamless information exchange and operational control, essential for managing a decentralized portfolio of e-methane plants. However, the effectiveness of these systems will depend on their ability to integrate with existing infrastructure and adapt to the dynamic nature of the energy market.

The use of simulation technologies in energy management is not new, but its application in the Power-to-X sector is gaining momentum. By comparing Volue’s approach with industry benchmarks, it becomes evident that simulation tools are critical for de-risking investments and optimizing operations. Competitors in the renewable sector, such as Siemens and ABB, also offer advanced simulation solutions, highlighting the competitive landscape Volue must navigate.

The partnership between Volue and Ren-Gas shows promise in several areas. The ability to model market operations in a simulator environment allows for the testing of best practices and optimization strategies. Additionally, the focus on renewable hydrogen and e-methane aligns with global trends towards decarbonization and sustainable energy solutions.

However, potential pitfalls must be acknowledged. The reliance on simulation and modeling, while beneficial, may not fully capture the complexities of real-world operations. Furthermore, the integration of new technologies with existing systems poses significant challenges. Ensuring interoperability and managing transition risks will be critical for the success of this partnership.
