Mercedes-Benz and Mörtlbauer Baumaschinen jointly exhibit two hydrogen prototypes

Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks and the business Mörtlbauer Baumaschinen jointly exhibited their two prototypes as part of the “WaVe” development project, which aims to investigate hydrogen combustion engines for special vehicles. The tracked vehicle and the Unimog test vehicle were used to show their functionality in both driving and working modes on the grounds of the Mörtlbauer facility located in Fürstenzell, Austria.

The presentation was made at the conclusion of a project that was supported by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. During the project, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks and Mörtlbauer developed two hydrogen combustion engines in collaboration with sixteen other consortium members. For more than a year, the drive system has already been used in the Unimog equipment carrier for a variety of testing.

Barwon Water pursuing innovations in wastewater and hydrogen

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) announced last week that it will be providing $3 million in financing to Barwon Water for an innovative initiative aimed at improving the efficiency of wastewater treatment through the use of pure oxygen.

The trial’s oxygen will come from hydrogen produced at the recently opened hydrogen refueling station at the Viva Energy Hub in Corio. Renewable electricity and recycled water from Barwon Water’s Northern Water Plant will be used to manufacture the hydrogen.

According to Shaun Cumming, Managing Director of Barwon Water, the project demonstrated Barwon Water’s approach to fostering regional prosperity via innovation, strategic alliances, and renewable energy.
