WEG provided three sizable synchronous motors through its Commercial Operation in France for the future largest liquefied hydrogen production facility in the world, which is owned by the top energy and chemical company in South Korea.

Around 30,000 tons of liquid hydrogen will be produced during the project’s first phase, which is projected to be finished in 2023. When the second phase of the project is finished in 2025, it is anticipated that 250,000 tons of clean hydrogen would be produced annually. A whole ecosystem, including production, distribution, and consumption, will result from this evolution (residential, commercial and industrial).

WEG provided three 8,500 kW, 13,200 V, 20-pole, 60 Hz S line synchronous motors for this project, which intends to satisfy the demand of the Korean metropolitan area. These motors were created especially to match the requirements of this application. Three W60 4,765 kW, 13,200 V, 4-pole, 60 Hz induction motors were also chosen to power the compressors in the factory.

All of the supplied motors were built for hazardous environments and have Korean KOSHA certification, as well as Zone 2 area classification, Group IIC atmospheric group, and T3 temperature class. This highlights the complexity of the project.

At the company’s headquarters in Jaraguá do Sul, synchronous motors weighing an average of 56 tons each were created. To get the equipment to the port of Navegantes in the state of Santa Catarina, where it was exported and shipped to South Korea, specialized conveyance was required.
