Plug Power has entered into a 2 GW electrolyzer agreement with Allied Green Ammonia for a $5.5 billion green chemical complex in Uzbekistan.
The partnership, unveiled during the Tashkent International Investment Forum, not only marks a geographic expansion for Plug but also consolidates its role as a technology provider for global-scale decarbonization projects.
The Uzbekistan facility is slated to produce sustainable aviation fuel, green urea, and green diesel—products increasingly in demand as regulators and industries seek to meet decarbonization targets. Backed by the Uzbek government, the project underlines the growing appetite among emerging economies to leapfrog into clean energy technologies. With this new project, Plug’s cumulative electrolyzer partnership with Allied Green now stands at 5 GW, including a previously announced 3 GW deal tied to a green ammonia development in Australia.
However, amid the celebratory tone, it is worth noting the project’s timeline. A final investment decision (FID) is not expected until Q4 2025—suggesting that, like many large-scale hydrogen ventures, the project’s trajectory remains vulnerable to shifting policy incentives, supply chain constraints, and capital costs. Plug’s involvement at this early stage positions it as a preferred vendor, but execution will ultimately hinge on whether off-take agreements and infrastructure development materialize at scale.
From a technology perspective, Plug’s electrolyzers are already deployed across five continents, supporting sectors from transportation to industrial processing. This latest announcement reinforces its efforts to standardize modular electrolyzer platforms capable of scaling across varied geographies and applications. For Allied Green, the partnership provides the technical backbone necessary to position itself as a credible player in the global green hydrogen and ammonia value chain.
