A new guidance document for safety planning and management in EU hydrogen and fuel cell projects has been produced by the European Hydrogen Safety Panel (EHSP).
The new publication builds on the first safety planning guidance document, which was published in 2019, by providing more information on safety planning, monitoring, and reporting for hydrogen and fuel cell projects in Europe. By integrating safety learnings, experience, and planning, it assists EU projects in incorporating state-of-the-art hydrogen safety.
EHSP efforts are also focused on the collecting and analysis of hydrogen safety-related data to draw lessons learned and provide further general suggestions to all stakeholders, as learning from others is a vital feature of a high-level safety culture.
The number of events in HIAD 2.0 has risen steadily, from around 250 in 2018 to around 500 in 2020. The EHSP, in partnership with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), has now released the lessons learnt from its in-depth examination in a study that contains suggestions for various industries and applications employing hydrogen.
