Ursula Von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, praised the initiative in Mallorca to create green hydrogen as a “wonderful example” in the face of climate change yesterday.
This is how Von der Leyen described the Power to Green project – the cornerstone of the European Green Hysland initiative – for the construction of a green hydrogen plant in Lloseta, during the start of the European Union’s Sustainable Energy Week.
According to the Government Vice Presidency, this project will create 300 tons of green hydrogen per year, entirely from solar plants. CO2 emissions might be decreased by up to 20,700 tons per year with this output.
The new Lloseta facility, according to the Vice Presidency, is the first significant initiative of the European Union’s Green Hydrogen Strategy in a southern European country. It will be powered by electricity generated by two solar facilities in Petra and Lloseta, and will begin operations in January 2022.
Juan Pedro Yllanes, the regional vice president and minister of Energy Transition and Productive Sectors, praised Von der Leyen for his remarks and emphasized that the regional administration is dedicated to decarbonizing the islands, decreasing emissions, and adhering to the Climate Change Law. He expressed his pride in the fact that his work has been appreciated across Europe.
Yllanes will be a member of the Spanish delegation at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26), which begins next week in Glasgow.
