Dr. Mohamed Shaker, the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, sets an annual plan to achieve in addition to long-term plans to upgrade Egypt’s electric energy sector.
Minister Mohamed Shaker declared 2022 to be “The Year of Green Hydrogen,” the fuel of the future, according to him. He confirmed that the ministry intends to use solar and wind energy to analyze water in order to generate green hydrogen gas, emphasizing that it is one of the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly sources of electricity, as well as the fuel of the future in the next ten years. Contracts have been signed to build five new green hydrogen plants as pilot projects, according to the minister, who added that these projects will be expanded once they have proven to be successful.
Shaker explained that using this type of turbine eliminates the need for delegations, which means the state won’t have to raise electricity prices. He also mentioned that the old stations will be modernized and developed by an Emirati company to improve the efficiency and operation of all power generation stations at the republican level. Shaker went on to say that renewable energy stations will be built near the Red Sea and the northern coast to extract green hydrogen gas and export it abroad via filling and sea transport, noting that exporting this type of gas will bring in a lot of money for Egypt.
The goal of introducing green hydrogen electric power generation technology, according to the minister, is to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions caused by generating electricity from fossil fuels, with the goal of preserving the environment.
