Tekmar companies support Coastal Virginia offshore wind project

Tekmar Group has reported the involvement of its operating companies: Ryder Geotechnical, Agiletek Engineering, Tekmar Energy, and Pipeshield International in the Coastal Virginia offshore wind project (CVOW) on the East Coast of the US. The project involves the installation of two 6MW offshore wind turbines.

Ryder Geotechnical, which specializes in geotechnical design and research, was the first group company to support the project, delivering on behalf of Ørsted a Cable Burial Risk Assessment (CBRA) in 2019. During the project’s design phase, the CBRA was performed to quantify the risk to the subsea export and array cables from external sources.

Tekmar Energy, which specializes in subsea protection solutions, has since supplied TekLink cable protection systems for Seaway 7 and TekDuct cable crossing protection for the project’s construction phase. On behalf of Tekmar Energy, AgileTek Engineering, which specializes in advanced engineering analysis, conducted verification analysis of the product design.

CVOW is one of several recent contracts awarded by Seaway 7 to Tekmar Energy and represents a clean sweep for the company in the offshore wind sector in the United States, having previously supplied cable protection systems for offshore wind farm Block Island.

Pipeshield International, which specializes in concrete stabilization and protection solutions, has also been awarded a Seaway 7 contract for the design, manufacture and supply of 30 custom-made concrete mattresses and related lifting equipment to protect and stabilize subsea cables on the wind farm.

The in-house technical design department at Pipeshield has developed a solution that combines heavy density minerals, a high-quality concrete mix and their patented N2 edge blocks.

“We are delighted to be part of one of the very first projects in the US. The emerging US offshore wind sector is a big opportunity and we hope to be able to share our leading services and technologies with future US renewable energy projects. CVOW is also another great example of Tekmar Group’s complementary technologies and services working together to support multiple stages of an offshore project.”

James Richie, CEO Tekmar Group.
