In order to achieve a carbon-neutral economy, Hyundai Engineering is striving to build a hydrogen metropolis in Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do.

By attending the “Carbon-neutral Economy Special Proclamation Ceremony” sponsored by Chungcheongnam-do on the 6th, Hyundai Engineering stated that it had inked a commercial agreement on the installation and operation of hydrogen supply facilities for the hydrogen city development project in Dangjin.

CEO Hong Hyun-seong, Chungnam Governor Kim Tae-heum, Dangjin Mayor Oh Seong-hwan, and Boryeong Mayor Kim Dong-il all attended the proclamation event that was conducted in the Chungcheongnam-do Cheong Literature Center on this particular day.

A city is referred to be a hydrogen city if it employs hydrogen as its primary source of energy. In order to address environmental issues, improve the urban environment, and raise citizen quality of life, it is possible to increase the proportion of hydrogen used in industry, transportation, and households by building hydrogen infrastructures like hydrogen production facilities, transport pipes, fuel cells, and hydrogen charging stations.

Hyundai Engineering intends to use high-purity hydrogen production technology and recyclable plastic to deliver hydrogen to Dangjin City. To this purpose, it inked an industrial complex occupation contract with Dangjin City in July of this year after conducting a technological demonstration test to create high-purity hydrogen using recycled plastic as a raw material. As a result, starting in 2020, a 96,167 m2 (290,000 pyeong) hydrogen production facility will be constructed at the Songsan 2 general industrial complex in Dangjin. By 2025, roughly 20,000 tons of hydrogen will be produced annually utilizing 100,000 tons of recycled plastic. seeking to

Hyundai Engineering is promoting a method that employs recycled plastic as a raw material to create hydrogen through pyrolysis and gasification. This technology uses recycled plastic as a raw material. Using GT’s method, carbon dioxide produced during the pyrolysis of recovered plastics may also be recycled for the creation of hydrogen.

This technique, called “carbon dioxide capture and resource conversion,” is being developed by GT and Hyundai Engineering. It is the first technology in the world to manufacture blue hydrogen without producing exhaust chemicals that harm the environment, such as nitrogen and carbon monoxide, while also significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

A representative of Hyundai Engineering stated, “Hydrogen is an acid, much like steel and chemicals.

It may be extensively employed in the industrial sector, logistics, transportation, and the home, making it a crucial energy source for a decarbonized civilization. I’ll do whatever I can to aid the public.
