The Free State of Saxony will co-finance three further hydrogen projects in Saxony as part of the collaborative European project “IPCEI Hydrogen.”
The cabinet gave Martin Dulig, the SPD’s minister of economics, the order to finalize the appropriate administrative agreements with the Federal Ministry of Economics on Tuesday. The communication states that the Landtag must still approve of this. The federal government will provide 70% of the cash, with the state contributing 30%, or roughly 57.8 million euros.
An important competitive advantage for energy-intensive businesses is the connection of the industry in and around Leipzig to the national hydrogen network, which is being pushed forward by Stadtwerke Leipzig. EDLAnlagenbauLeipzig is trying to give businesses quick access to PtX products such sustainably produced kerosene, hydrogen, or unrefined gasoline (NAFTA).
According to Dulig, the growth of the hydrogen economy and the integration of local business are “of strategic importance,” particularly in light of the quickening of structural and technical change as well as the requirement for a reorientation of German and European energy policy. Energy supply, production and distribution facilities, transportation systems, and hydrogen derivatives are the foundation for hydrogen to become a connecting factor of value creation.
The IPCEI initiative seeks to establish a single hydrogen market in Europe. Projects by Sunfire Dresden and two programs by the Leipzig-based Ontras Gastransport are already being co-financed to the tune of 30% each as part of the program.
