Biagi Bros. to take 15 Nikola Tre FCEVs

In the fourth quarter of 2023, Ontario-based Biagi Bros. aims to accept delivery of 15 Nikola Tre hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).

To support the 24/7 operations, the FCEV trucks are anticipated to travel over 100,000 miles annually.

In order for the Nikola Tre FCEV to qualify for CARB’s Hybrid and Zero Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP) program, Nikola just received a California Air Resources Board (CARB) Zero-Emission Powertrain Executive Order.

Buyers of the Nikola Tre FCEV in 2023 may be eligible for California’s state-based incentive valued at $240,000 per truck, $270,000 for drayage fleets, or up to $288,000 per truck for fleets with I 10 trucks or fewer, (ii) performing drayage operations, and (iii) located in a disadvantaged community area, depending on the outcome of the final HVIP approval. Both drayage and non-drayage eligible fleets are eligible to receive up to 50 HVIP certificates.

The Inflation Reduction Act’s passing means that, in addition to the funds granted by HVIP, buyers of Nikola’s Tre FCEVs will be entitled to an additional $40,000 clean commercial vehicle tax credit from the federal government in 2023.

The Nikola Tre FCEV is anticipated to have among the longest ranges of all commercially available zero tailpipe emission Class 8 tractors, with a range of up to 500 miles and an estimated fueling time of less than 20 minutes based on technological advancements. It will also weigh less than BEV Class 8 trucks with comparable range. The Tre FCEV is suitable for a wide range of uses, including drayage, intermodal, metro-regional truckload, less than truckload, and certain specialty hauling use cases.
