Initial Generation II pictures, created in cooperation with the EDAG Group, have been delivered to First Hydrogen Corp. (EDAG). The front and back details of the newest generation are displayed in these earliest pictures.

A smart digital screen is visible in the front view, displaying the daytime running light (DRL) configuration intended to give the van a recognizable face and identity as well as exceptional visibility. Vertical taillights can be seen on either side of the primary cargo access port in the rear elevation. Since it can accept various doors, such as roller shutters, barn doors, and tailgates, the design is functionally oriented.

Worldwide mobility engineers EDAG were chosen by First Hydrogen in 2022 to create the design and styling for the Company’s zero-emission light commercial vehicles. EDAG is renowned for its top-level creation of concept cars, prototypes, and knowledge in the global automotive industry (LCV). The patterns can be resized to fit various vehicle lengths and heights. The end product will be modular vehicles that may be customized for operational use and used for a variety of tasks, such as express delivery, supermarket delivery, utility work, construction work, emergency services, and car recovery.

With faster refueling speeds, a longer range, and greater payload, auxiliary load, and towing capabilities, First Hydrogen’s fuel cell vehicle (FCEV) offers operational benefits for the zero-emission commercial van market and LCV sector. This operational flexibility will be reflected in the Company’s Generation II design, ultimately assisting First Hydrogen in becoming a pioneer in efficiency and advancement for zero-emission automobiles.

Before beginning operational trials, the Company’s Generation I FCEVs are now putting on miles and undergoing testing. The vans will be assigned to fleet operators from the UK Aggregated Hydrogen Freight Consortium (AHFC), including national supermarkets, utility companies, roadside assistance providers, and healthcare services, beginning in March 2023. These practical on-road tests will give users a hands-on introduction to hydrogen transport options, assist First Hydrogen in connecting with potential clients, and provide information that will help the company design and produce future vehicles.

In 2021, the market for light commercial vehicles was worth USD 480.52 billion. It is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of 5.1% from now until 2030 when it is expected to reach USD 751.86 billion (2022-2030).

CEO of Automotive for First Hydrogen, Steve Gill, says: “We’re excited to present this sneak peek of our upcoming line of zero-emission automobiles. With this next series of vehicles, we hope to provide the commercial van market with a comprehensive solution for operational flexibility, building on the success of our Generation I demonstrator vans that demonstrate our idea and technical capabilities. The vehicle configuration and characteristic light panels demonstrate a strong standout design that is iconic and will be a real head turner; this sneak look demonstrates the considerable effort that has gone into fusing aesthetics with engineering excellence.”

Design Director at EDAG Spain, Bernat Costa, says: “While establishing a distinctive First Hydrogen design signature and illuminating the van to increase its visibility for other road users in the city and urban settings, the light panels’ simple design complements the van’s utilitarian function. This is crucial for delivery and roadside service vehicles because they must frequently stop. The vehicles’ zero-emission status is also reflected in their sleek appearance. As the project develops, we can’t wait to share more of the design.”
