A memorandum of understanding was signed by Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd (MMHE) and FuelCell Energy to work together on the construction of substantial electrolyzer facilities in Asia, New Zealand, and Australia.
These facilities are being developed to significantly improve production efficiency and lower costs for green hydrogen. Together, the businesses hope to provide electrolyzer machinery that will make large-scale clean hydrogen generation a practical and accessible energy source.
The collaboration’s main goals are to tackle the capital cost of the production plant and the cost of input electricity, which are the two biggest obstacles to producing green hydrogen. FuelCell Energy’s solid oxide technique uses less energy since it is more efficient at creating hydrogen than low-temperature electrolysis, which has lower efficiency. On the other hand, it is anticipated that MHB’s capacity for modularization and large-scale construction will lower the overall capital cost for large-scale electrolyzer projects. From each production facility, the combined solution is anticipated to produce enough carbon-free hydrogen to power hundreds of thousands of homes.
