URBAS and AECOM to develop green hydrogen and sustainable fuels

A partnership between URBAS and AECOM has been announced to develop green fuels, green hydrogen, and green ammonia projects that support the global energy transformation.

With a particular focus on green methanol projects in Spain, both companies will cooperate to explore shared commercial prospects and provide competitive comprehensive solutions on a global level through this collaboration.

Because of its ample sunshine and wind power, Spain is destined to play a significant role in the production of ecological hydrogen, according to Javier Camy, General Director of AECOM in Spain.

Whereas AECOM focuses on engineering, design, and sustainability, URBAS is a multinational firm that specializes in sustainable infrastructure and building, real estate development, and renewable energies.

URBAS and AECOM have previously collaborated on projects including renewable energy sources.

In this way, both businesses take part in the ATOME project in Paraguay, which involves building Villeta, the largest green hydrogen and ammonia installation in Latin America, using only renewable energy.

The Villeta plant, with a 120 MW installed capacity, will use renewable energy from the Itaipu hydroelectric plant, the second largest hydroelectric plant in the world, operated by the National Electricity Administration, to produce up to 300 tons of liquid ammonia and 50 tons of hydrogen per day in its initial phase (ANDE).

Juan Antonio Acedo, president, and chief executive officer of URBAS, says, “At URBAS we are very delighted with this cooperation with AECOM because its vision matches perfectly with our goals to contribute to the decarbonization of the economy.

“This collaboration is a major advance in our desire to lead the clean energy revolution,” he continues, “since it will allow us to jointly offer competitive, profitable solutions in a setting with more stringent environmental constraints.”
