To promote hydrogen fuel cell-powered passenger vehicles in China, Haima Automobile announced that it had reached an agreement with Toyota Motor’s Chinese investment arm.
According to an agreement, the two businesses will use the southern Chinese province of Hainan as a testing ground, Haikou-based Haima said.
Toyota Motor China Investment will complete vehicle adaptation development, conduct tests with Haima’s in-house hydrogen supply system, and bring mature systems and components, like the second-generation electric pile from the Toyota Mirai, to Haima models.
According to the Chinese company, Haima and Toyota plan to put 200 test cars into service this year and 2,000 by 2025. The two businesses will investigate using Hainan Free Trade Port’s zero-tariff import policy once China’s market for hydrogen fuel cell cars reaches a certain size in order to strengthen their partnership, according to Haima.
Toyota has never before provided hydrogen fuel cell systems to a Chinese passenger car manufacturer, but since April 2019, it has done so for a number of China-based commercial vehicle manufacturers, gradually enhancing its development, manufacturing, market investment, and service procedures in the nation.
