Thyssenkrupp Nucera Secures North American Contract”

Thyssenkrupp Nucera AG & Co. KGaA, based in Dortmund, Germany, continues to make strides in the green hydrogen sector.

The company has recently signed an agreement for a North American project, securing a contract for the supply of their standardized 20 MW “scalum” electrolysis modules with a total installed capacity in the high multi-hundred-megawatt range.

This technology represents a significant advancement in the field of green hydrogen production. Scalum modules enable the production of green hydrogen on an industrial scale, leveraging the company’s expertise in designing highly efficient electrolysis plants. These plants utilize alkaline water electrolyzers, an essential component for green hydrogen production, and a cornerstone of Thyssenkrupp Nucera’s growth strategy in the burgeoning green hydrogen market. For proprietary reasons, the two parties involved have agreed not to disclose further contractual details.

This marks the second time in a few short months that a company has leveraged Thyssenkrupp Nucera’s reservation agreement to secure its supply chain in the early stages. This trend speaks volumes about the rapidly growing green hydrogen market and the burgeoning demand for climate-neutral energy carriers. As more industries lean towards sustainability, Thyssenkrupp Nucera’s green hydrogen solutions are seeing a steep rise in demand.

Dr. Christoph Noeres, Head of Green Hydrogen at Thyssenkrupp Nucera AG & Co. KGaA, sheds light on the situation, “With our reservation agreement to reserve our production capacities, we enable companies to plan with greater certainty for projects in the megawatt and gigawatt range.” He anticipates the hydrogen economy in North America gaining momentum and setting the global pace in the coming years.

The first company to secure manufacturing capacity with Thyssenkrupp Nucera was H2 Green Steel. The Swedish industrial startup will use large-scale electrolyzers to produce green hydrogen for Europe’s first commercial-scale green steel plant. This project also includes the construction of one of Europe’s largest water electrolysis plants, boasting a total installed capacity of over 700 megawatts.

Thyssenkrupp Nucera has already contracted over 3 gigawatts of alkaline water electrolysis capacity. These contracts include a more than 2 GW electrolysis plant for Air Products in Saudi Arabia, marking one of the world’s largest green hydrogen projects. Other projects feature Shell’s new 200 MW hydrogen plant in the port of Rotterdam and H2 Green Steel’s green steel plant. These projects affirm Thyssenkrupp Nucera’s position as a world-leading technology provider in the industry, handling projects in the multi-100 MW up to the gigawatt power range.
