Nikola Corporation, a global leader in zero-emissions transportation and energy solutions, has been awarded a $41.9 million grant by the California Transportation Commission (CTC) to build six heavy-duty hydrogen refueling stations across Southern California.
This initiative, in partnership with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), aligns with the state’s zero-emission vehicle strategy and aims to support the development and adoption of zero-emission freight technology while providing essential truck parking facilities.
Caltrans, as the sponsor, will collaborate with Nikola Corporation to deploy these strategically located hydrogen refueling stations along major freight corridors. The project targets regions such as the South Coast Air Quality Management District, San Diego County Air Pollution Control District, and Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District. The stations’ establishment is expected to have a profound impact on the region, promoting community health improvements and reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, the project aims to address local noise pollution concerns.
