Mexico’s Ambassador to Japan, Melba Pría, has extended a compelling invitation to Japanese businessmen.

The call is not just for investment in the production of green hydrogen but also for the establishment of research and development centers focusing on cutting-edge technologies within the manufacturing industry.

Mexico, already a producer of blue hydrogen, is advancing its commitment to sustainable energy with a focus on green hydrogen. Ambassador Pría, addressing the XXXIII Mexico-Japan Business Plenary Meeting, emphasized the untapped investment opportunity for Japan. With the global shift towards cleaner energy, green hydrogen has emerged as a key player in reducing carbon footprints, and Mexico aims to position itself as a major contributor to this transition.

Japan, aiming to decarbonize its economy by 50% by 2050, has been a frontrunner in formulating comprehensive hydrogen strategies since 2017. Ambassador Pría highlighted Japan’s dedication to developing infrastructure for the production, processing, and utilization of hydrogen as a green fuel. The partnership between Mexico and Japan in this venture marks a significant step towards achieving shared goals in the renewable energy sector.

Acknowledging Mexico’s progress in clean energy, the ambassador pointed out a 27% increase in clean energy generation between 2017 and 2022. With a crucial target of generating 35% of electrical energy from clean sources by 2024, Mexico is at the forefront of the clean energy transition. The call for Japanese investment aligns with the collective pursuit of sustainable and renewable energy solutions.

The relationship between Mexico and Japan goes beyond energy initiatives. The two nations are poised to collaborate on various fronts, including electromobility, lithium batteries, robotics, satellite technology, and pharmaceutical advancements. Ambassador Pría encouraged Japanese investors to explore research and development centers in Mexico, emphasizing the importance of cutting-edge technologies for mutual benefit.

The stable, mature, and friendly relationship between Mexico and Japan, spanning 135 years of modern diplomatic relations, forms the foundation for renewed strategic collaboration. With both countries facing a changing global landscape, the emphasis is on scientific innovation and regionalizing value chains to meet new challenges.
