NTPC, India’s largest power utility, has embarked on a transformative journey towards green hydrogen production. The recent signing of a land lease agreement with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) marks a pivotal step in realizing NTPC’s ambitious green energy objectives and aligning with the Government of India’s (GoI) energy transition efforts.
The agreement, inked between NTPC Green Energy (NGEL) and APIIC, sets the stage for the development of an ‘integrated green hydrogen hub’ spanning 1200 acres near Pudimadaka village in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This ambitious project aims to create a world-class ecosystem for cutting-edge technologies in the realm of renewable energy, including electrolyzer and fuel cell manufacturing, along with ancillary industries, start-ups, testing facilities, and production units for green hydrogen derivatives like ammonia and methanol.
At the heart of the Pudimadaka Green Hydrogen Hub lies the deployment of advanced technologies to scale up green hydrogen production. With plans for India’s largest green hydrogen production facility, capable of generating 1200 tons per day (TPD), NTPC is poised to become a key player in the global green energy market. The integration of electrolysis, ammonia, and methanol production processes underscores NTPC’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in energy generation.
