TNB and Siemens Energy Forge Path in Green Hydrogen Tech

TNB and Siemens Energy Forge Path in Green Hydrogen Tech

Harnessing the power of green hydrogen, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and Siemens Energy’s are collaborating on Malaysia’s energy transition.

TNB’s association with Siemens Energy not only marks a milestone in Malaysia’s quest for a sustainable future but also aligns with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), as per Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz. The initiative is set to bolster the country’s energy transition drive by tapping into renewable energy.

The journey began last year with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aiming to expedite the decarbonisation of TNB’s thermal power plants. The process involves leveraging green hydrogen derived from renewable energy resources.

Behind the scenes, along with the prime minister, other key figures like Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick, and Malaysia’s Ambassador to Germany Datin Paduka Dr Adina Kamarudin are working relentlessly to champion this pivot towards the green economy.

Making a monumental stride, Siemens Energy, recognized as one of the world’s leading energy technology companies, extends its expertise across 90 countries. The organization dedicates its workforce of approximately 90,000 workers to the comprehensive energy landscape. The spectrum ranges from conventional to renewable energy and from grid technology to storage—thus electrifying complex industrial procedures.

In Berlin, Siemens Energy’s Huttenstrasse factory holds around 3,400 workers devoted to the assembly of gas turbines and electrolysis-based hydrogen production systems. This crucial process is a testament to the company’s commitment to sustainable energy production.
