CWP Global has teamed up with Sonangol, Gauff, and Conjuncta to form a consortium focused on developing a green hydrogen project in Angola.
This partnership was announced during the Angola Oil & Gas conference in Luanda. The project intends to utilize Angola’s hydroelectric power to produce green hydrogen and its derivatives, including up to 600 MW of electrolysis capacity. It is poised to be the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The produced green hydrogen will be combined with nitrogen to create green ammonia, mainly for export. This initiative leverages existing power infrastructure and available land to quickly establish Angola as a leading supplier of green ammonia. In a global effort to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, this project positions Angola as a potential hub for sustainable industrialization in Africa. The partnership aligns with Angola’s “Vision 2050” strategy and the National Development Plan (2023-2027).
Conjuncta’s CEO, Prof. Dr. Stefan Liebing, welcomed CWP Global’s involvement. He believes Angola provides a strong framework for producing green hydrogen, making this project highly promising. With CWP Global’s experience, he is confident Angola can lead in developing a new green hydrogen industry in Africa.
