HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has secured approval in principle (AIP) from ABS, recognizing their innovative tank design dedicated to the efficient transport and storage of hydrogen.
The newly developed vacuum insulation system by HD KSOE notably cuts down the time needed to establish a vacuum in extensive tanks, a crucial step in the safe and efficient transportation of hydrogen.
This technology effectively maintains a vacuum at extremely low temperatures of -253℃. Such capabilities ensure the safe and loss-free conveyance of liquid hydrogen in substantial volumes, meeting stringent class and statutory review standards.
Irominent energy and shipping companies, including Woodside Energy, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), and Hyundai Glovis, have engaged in the validation testing of this innovative system. These industry leaders continue to collaborate with HD KSOE on developing an 80,000 cubic meter liquid hydrogen carrier, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing hydrogen transport technology.
