Atlas Copco has entered the market with their latest offering, a 1MW battery energy storage unit.

As the largest such system the Swedish technology giant has released, the ZBC 1000-1200 is strategically designed for diverse applications, including construction, mining, events, ports, and emergency power needs.

The core of this energy storage system comprises LiFePO4 Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, recognized for their stability and efficiency. Its operational temperature range of -20°C to +50°C and suitability for higher altitudes highlight the unit’s versatility. Atlas Copco’s integration of advanced thermal management through HVAC technology ensures optimal performance across myriad environmental conditions.

The technical innovations do not end there. The system’s connectivity is enhanced by a power lock socket, facilitating seamless integration. The flexibility of the ZBC models shines through with seamless scalability, allowing up to 16 units to connect in parallel, thereby enhancing power output and energy storage capacity.

A noteworthy feature is the ECO Controller, pivotal for system monitoring and control. This controller centralizes hybrid energy sources and integrates performance data, ensuring efficiency and reliability in energy management. To further streamline operations, the units are connected to Atlas Copco’s FleetLink telematics system. This connectivity empowers users with real-time monitoring capabilities, optimizing fleet usage and reducing downtime.

The introduction of this storage system comes at a critical time for energy infrastructure, as revealed by the Wood Mackenzie report noting a 33% increase in U.S. storage installations in 2024. It signifies a broader trend toward robust energy solutions across the globe. Atlas Copco’s system also addresses challenges associated with traditional generators, such as delays and potential blackouts, offering immediate power solutions and ensuring business continuity.

This development aligns with global movements toward decarbonization and the adoption of renewable energy sources. While the unit primarily functions as a standalone battery energy storage system (BESS), its hybrid functionality allows integration with renewables, supporting sustainable energy goals.
