ABS has given its preliminary certification to a 20,000 cbm liquefied hydrogen carrier concept from Samsung Heavy Industries (AIP).
The joint development project (JDP) to study and validate many aspects of the vessel design, such as Type C cargo tanks, cargo handling, and fuel gas delivery systems, culminated in the AIP that was presented at the Gastech conference.
“Shipping will be essential as the hydrogen value chain grows. According to Patrick Ryan, ABS Senior Vice President, Global Engineering and Technology, “ABS is also playing a significant role in the energy transition by facilitating the safe and effective transportation of hydrogen at sea.
According to Young-Gyu Kang, SHI Executive Vice President, CTO, “SHI has acquired essential technologies for the design of liquid hydrogen carriers from recent development projects and is prepared for the future liquefied hydrogen carrier market via extensive design development and verifications.”
