The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has given Veer Corporation its “Approval in Principle” (AiP) for its project to construct the first fleet of ocean-going container ships that are completely clean.
A combination of green hydrogen fuel cell engines and DynaRig sail technology will be installed on the company’s 100-meter cargo ships.
Veer stated that it anticipates receiving shipyards’ bidding responses to its proposal package soon and that it hopes to have chosen a shipyard by the end of this year. By the end of 2024, the business intends to start shipping with two vessels.
The project is overseen by a Brookes Bell team with assistance from Dutch naval architects at Dykstra.
LUSH, a company that is considering working with Veer as an early adopter of hydrogen for its delivery services, has also backed the project.
