Air Liquide and Vopak have entered into a strategic partnership, marking a significant step towards advancing the low-carbon hydrogen ecosystem in Singapore.

The collaboration between Air Liquide and Vopak is driven by the shared goal of facilitating the transition towards a sustainable, low-carbon economy in Singapore. Ammonia, recognized as a promising low-carbon fuel for power generation and maritime applications, serves as an efficient carrier of hydrogen. Leveraging existing global supply chains and infrastructure for ammonia production and transportation, the partnership intends to explore the establishment of low-carbon ammonia supply chains in Singapore. This includes the development of ammonia cracking facilities, storage infrastructure, and a hydrogen pipeline network to enable the conversion of ammonia into hydrogen.

The development of infrastructure for ammonia import, cracking, and hydrogen distribution holds immense potential for Singapore’s efforts to decarbonize industry and mobility sectors. By harnessing the capabilities of ammonia as a hydrogen carrier, the collaboration aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions in industrial processes and hard-to-abate sectors. Furthermore, the initiative aligns with Singapore’s National Hydrogen Strategy, focusing on driving advanced hydrogen technologies with high commercial readiness to establish sustainable hydrogen supply chains.

The collaboration between Air Liquide and Vopak reflects Singapore’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability in its energy landscape. With strong support from Singapore’s National Hydrogen Strategy, the partnership underscores the importance of public-private cooperation in advancing hydrogen technologies. By aligning with government initiatives and leveraging synergies between industry stakeholders, Air Liquide and Vopak aim to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Singapore’s energy transition.

As Singapore strives to position itself as a global leader in sustainable development, initiatives like the collaboration between Air Liquide and Vopak hold immense significance. By harnessing the potential of low-carbon hydrogen technologies, the partnership not only addresses environmental challenges but also unlocks new opportunities for economic growth and innovation. Together, Air Liquide and Vopak are paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
