In order to create hydrogen train solutions customized for Saudi Arabia, Saudi Railway Business (SAR) and global rail transport company Alstom with headquarters in France have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

According to a news release from Alstom, the goal is to investigate potential avenues for the Kingdom’s future of sustainable transportation and to create and put into action ideas connected to rail infrastructure and capabilities that are in line with Vision 2030.

According to prior reports, the Coradia iLint from Alstom is the first passenger train in the world to be propelled by hydrogen fuel cells. It is now in use in Germany and Austria.

8,000 km of railway are expected to be built in Saudi Arabia, according to a January 2022 story from Reuters.
