Alstom has formally joined the multi-state, New York-led collaboration for the Northeast to become one of at least four local hydrogen centres for renewable energy.
Following two significant visits arranged by the North Country Chamber—one in August by eight members of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s top staff responsible for Energy, Transportation, the Environment, and Economic Development, and another in October 2022 by Doreen Harris and her team from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)—planning for Alstom to join the consortium began.
With the formal signature of the MOU, Alstom has now joined a coalition of more than seven states and more than 100 partners in the clean hydrogen ecosystem that is building the framework for an application for up to $8 billion in funding to the US Department of Energy.
In order to propose and progress clean energy hydrogen projects, Alstom and the other consortium members have committed to working with NYSERDA, the New York Power Authority (NYPA), and Empire State Development (ESD).
This is a major step because, if the hydrogen hub were chosen and funded, it would open the door to the possibility of a hydrogen train made in New York State operating along the Northeast Corridor in the future.
