With the goal of producing and exporting green ammonia, AMEA Power and the Egyptian government inked a framework agreement to build a 1GW green hydrogen project in the Suez Governorate.
The company declared that it will collaborate with the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE), the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Co (EETC), the New and Renewable Energy Authority, and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) to complete the project on the fringes of the COP27 session in Sharm El-Sheikh.
At the coastal town of Ain Sokhna, AMEA Power is carrying out the development in two 500-MW stages. When finished, the facility is anticipated to produce 800,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually while being powered by 2 GW of wind and solar energy.
The Dubai-based developer is getting ready to unveil the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) in January 2023 after already finishing a feasibility study. A final investment decision (FID) is anticipated to be made over the next 24 to 36 months, and the first 500 MW stage is anticipated to be finished in 2027.
