Apex Clean Energy and Plug Power announced the signing of a 345 MW wind power purchase agreement (PPA) and a development services agreement for a green hydrogen production facility.

The power obtained under the PPA will be used to power a new hydrogen manufacturing plant directly. Apex and Plug Power are collaborating to create the hydrogen plant, which will be the first and largest wind-supplied hydrogen project in the United States and the world’s largest onshore wind project.

Once operational, the plant is expected to produce more than 30 metric tons of pure liquid hydrogen per day, enough to fuel over 2,000 light commercial vehicles or over 1,000 heavy duty class 8 trucks.

The relationship, which follows the firms’ September 2020 announcement of a collaboration agreement, is Apex’s largest to date and will help achieve the potential of green hydrogen in North America, advancing the decarbonization of transportation and industry.
