The Swedish Rederi AB Gotland and the Australian shipbuilder Austal have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to develop a high-speed catamaran that can run on hydrogen.
The joint venture partners plan to create a high-speed catamaran with multi-fuel options for hydrogen and other fossil-free fuels.
The 130-meter-long Gotland Horizon X will have a top speed of 35 knots. The ship will be able to accommodate 450 passenger cars in addition to 1,650 passengers. It will be utilised in Gotland traffic.
Our first hydrogen-powered concept ship from the Horizon series, Gotland Horizon, was introduced in 2021. According to the firm, this is the first extensive hydrogen-powered passenger transportation in Sweden. By 2030, the ship is expected to be in use.
