First Subsea, part of the First Tech Group based in Aberdeen, has secured a contract from Jan De Nul for the Cable Protection System (CPS) for the export and inter-array cables at the Formosa 2 offshore wind farm in Taiwan. The wind farm will be developed as a joint venture between JERA, Macquarie Group Green Investment, and Swancor Renewable Energy. Formosa 2 will consist of 47 turbines and is situated in the Strait of Taiwan, 40nm from the port of Taichung in Miaoli County. Danske Commodities has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for 480 MW with the world’s largest offshore wind farm, Dogger Bank. Under the agreement, Danske Commodities will be responsible for the trading and balancing of 480 MW. Dogger Bank is owned by Equinor (50%) and SSE Renewables (50%) and is located 130 km off the coast of Yorkshire in the UK. Marine Energy Wales (MEW) has supported the Morlais tidal demonstration project’s Phased Approach to deploying devices in the test zone. Much emphasis is placed on a targeted environmental monitoring programme designed to identify and mitigate adverse impacts on the marine environment and other users of the sea.  MEW is the secretariat of a Welsh Consenting Strategic Advisory Group which brings together experienced representatives of the marine energy industry, environmental NGOs, including the RSPB and The Wildlife Trust, the regulator Natural Resources Wales and Welsh Government. The Tennessee Valley Authority has confirmed that the new 70-megawatt solar facility in Madison County, Tennessee will support Facebook’s operations in the region. TVA is partnering with Nashville-based solar developer Silicon Ranch to develop the carbon-free energy. “TVA is building the energy system of the future, and we are leading the charge by contracting 1,300 megawatts of utility-scale solar in the past two years. Tokyo Gas America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas, has acquired Hecate Energy’s Aktina solar project, a 500MWac/631MWdc solar project located in Wharton County, Texas. Aktina is located near the high-demand Houston load center and will begin construction in Q3 2020. The generated power will be sold to the ERCOT wholesale market. The CrossWind consortium, a joint venture between Shell in the Netherlands and Eneco, has awarded Fugro a contract to deliver geotechnical site investigation solutions to support development of the Hollandse Kust (noord) offshore wind farm. The site investigation solutions will comprise an unexploded ordnance (UXO) site clearance survey followed by a seabed cone penetration test (CPT) investigation. Archer Knight has added offshore wind developments – floating and fixed, as well as subsea oil & gas developments to Flowline, the company’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) market intelligence platform.
