Ballard Power Systems has secured a significant order for 15 megawatts (MW) of fuel cell systems from a UK-based firm specializing in renewable off-grid power generation.

This order marks a substantial advancement in Ballard’s supply relationship, following previous purchases totaling around 5 MW from the same customer. The company plans to supply 150 FCmove-HD+ 100 kW systems starting in late 2024 and continuing into 2025. This development highlights the growing demand for clean energy solutions in the field of stationary power applications.

The order, which is the first under a new multi-year supply agreement, signifies the customer’s confidence in Ballard’s fuel cell technology. Additionally, the agreement includes an option for the customer to acquire up to 296 additional systems by March 2026. If this option is fully exercised, the total number of systems ordered would reach 446, showcasing the scalability and potential for expansion within this market.

This recent development underscores the rising prominence of hydrogen fuel cell technology in the power generation sector and its potential to drive the shift towards greener energy alternatives. As the global focus on sustainability and carbon reduction intensifies, investments and collaborations in clean energy solutions like fuel cells are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of power generation.
