Bloom Energy, a leading provider of distributed energy solutions, has signed an agreement with Elugie, an energy service company in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, to provide 9.75 megawatts of power from the Bloom Energy Server® at five commercial, industrial, and data centre sites in Belgium.

This marks Bloom Energy’s entry into the northern European market. The solid-oxide fuel cell platforms, with new compatibility with Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems, are scheduled to be delivered in late 2023 and early 2024. Elugie and Bloom are also discussing additional Bloom energy platform deployments to sites in the Netherlands and the Baltic nations, including Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.

Bloom Energy’s new CHP feature, which enhances energy efficiency and reduces carbon emissions, is expected to be widely adopted in Europe, where climate-friendly technologies are becoming increasingly important for commercial and industrial electricity users. This agreement with Elugie marks a significant milestone in Bloom’s expansion into Europe, following the announcement of marketing partnership agreements with Telam for Spain and Portugal earlier this year and energy platform sales to Cefla and Ferrari in Italy in 2022.

Tim Schweikert, Senior Managing Director of International Business Development at Bloom Energy, stated that the agreement with Elugie is a significant win that supports Bloom Energy’s focus on building international business sales. Bjorn Van Haver, the founder of Elugie, added that the partnership with Bloom Energy will provide clean and efficient solutions to critical customers in the country, and Elugie aims to deploy Bloom’s servers in the Netherlands and the Baltics. Elugie is an experienced EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) company that specializes in delivering energy-as-a-service.

This new agreement between Bloom Energy and Elugie is expected to pave the way for the widespread adoption of fuel cell technology and CHP systems in Europe, as countries and businesses increasingly seek to reduce their carbon footprint and meet sustainability targets.
